How Do You Blog: Don't Forget The Traffic

So you've decided to start a blog. Good for you. Blogs are a wonderful way to exercise your mind. They are a great way to build your reputation. And along the way, you might even be able to make a little money.


And they're flexible. You can create written content. You can create video content. You can create audio content. And you can create content on just about any topic you can think of.


They're also easy to do. With the modern tools like WordPress or Blogger, anyone can create and maintain a blog without having to know anything about web programming or html.


But before you jump into creating your content have you given any thought to how you are going to get traffic?


Yup, blogs need traffic too. After all, if you want your blog to be of any use, you need to have an audience. And to create a regular audience, you first need traffic. After all, any writing without a reader is a very sad and lonely thing. By the way, traffic is just internet marketing speak for the number of visitors your site receives.


Traffic is important for a number of different reasons.


Returning traffic is important if you are hoping to build an ongoing relationship with readers. And you should. An ongoing relationship is important to creating an environment that encourages your readers to buy from you.


Returning traffic also helps you to build the number of readers. Unfortunately, it takes time to build up to a valuable level of traffic. Being able to convince your readers to return will make the growth much easier.


New traffic is important because of the high loss rates with the internet. The sad reality is that unless your reader bookmarks your site or opts into your mailing list, it is very unlikely they will be able to find your site again. You'll lose them. Even if they do bookmark your site, chances are they won't bother to return. Even when they pay for the service, chances are they won't return very often.


Traffic levels are also important if you sell advertising on your site. Some methods pay for the number of impressions. Unless your site (and the ad) is seen, you won't earn anything. Even if the payment method is on click, your traffic is key to your success. Every ad has a click through rate. This is the percentage of clicks for every hundred impressions an ad gets. While it does change from week to week, this percentage does tend to vary within limits over a period of time. So if you are being paid by the click, you need to have a high level of traffic to get sufficient clicks.


If you are receiving payment based on commission, the situation is even worse. Not only do you get clicks proportional to the traffic, but you'll make sales in proportion to the number of clicks you receive. Let's say, you have a click through rate of 10%. In order to make 100 sales in a month, you'll need 1000 clicks. But to make 1000 clicks you'll need 10,000 visitors in a month.


Of course, not all traffic is equal. In fact, too much of the wrong type of traffic can sink your site. Most sites have some level of limitation on the amount of traffic they can have before you begin being charged extra. If you are receiving too much untargeted traffic, your advertising and other sales will not be enough to justify the extra costs. On the other hand, targeted traffic -- that is visitors who are ready to buy a product like yours -- will increase your advertising and other sales.

Engage Your Audience in 90 Seconds

The more you engage with your audience, the more credibility and rapport will be built between you and your audience. Yes, many people are aware of that they need to engage with the audience in order to build the credibility but how many people are truly providing massive value to them? To really engage with your audience, the content that you posted must really be beneficial and constructive to them. No one wants to read content that are not able to solve their problems or is not constructive enough to help them. You must write what they want and not what you want.


Identify what your blog is about


When starting a blog, it is very common to write on many other topics that you like but by doing so,you will soon lose the objectives of your blog. Identifying what the readers will gain upon reading your blog is very critical. You would have to identify the purpose of your blog and refrain from blogging on different type of topics that are not related to one another. By doing so, not only will your readers get confused, they will find you as someone who do not know how to organize your content well and since they will establish the mindset that the content you produce won't be able to benefit them. Would you ever want to read a blog that posted content on many different things? Definitely no right! Therefore, it would be good if you can narrow your blog to be as specific as possible. There is no point for you to target a lot of audience when they are not really interested in the topic that you wrote. Engage your audience and provide the best for them.


If you are not sure on what niche should you go into, write down the list of things that you are currently doing and once you have written everything down, look at each thing you have written down. Ask yourself, if you have one million dollars, would you still want to do it? If the answer is yes, you are ready to blog on that.


Build Your Own Community


In order to build your own community and engage your audience, the first thing you would need to do is to create valuable content; it should not be found anywhere easily. By providing unique content, not only there is a distinction between you and other people in your relevant filed, you will also give an impression to your audience that you are unique. Hence, they will find you a better person to turn to since you are not providing the same exact things as the others.


Always connect with other people that can help you along your way, not just those experienced people but also people that are trying to do the same thing that you are. Make yourself everywhere so that people will get to know your existence and look up to you if they have any problems. As your name starts to appear on more and more places, people will start to take notice of you and will start to feel curious on whom the person is and might decide to research more about you. That is when your blog started to have an increase in audience but if you are not providing the things that they wanted, they will just close the window and forget about you totally.


To prevent this from happening, make sure you are not hiding anything from them and give the best content you can. To create valuable content, you do not have to do it alone, you can always head down to the forums to seek for help and I am sure they will be glad to help you. You can also seek advice from people you always look up to. Send them an email in a very polite manner and the tone you are using should not give the other party that they owe you a reply or feedback. Always bear in mind that first impression counts! By using the wrong way of seeking help, you are bound to offend many big players and no one would be interested to work with you. Always treat your audience as real people and not "computer bots". Provide them with your best solutions and always try to reply to all of the comments.


To really engage your audience, Sending updates should not be the only thing to do for engaging, that is called a newsletter and not community. You can always talk to them via email and ask them more for any further improvements. By doing so, they would think that you are a good blogger who always place the readers' interest on the first priority and will spread the word to their friends and family. Remember that the community is not always about you! It is about people. People love to talk about themselves and love to talk about what interests them.


Why engagement is not enough


Engaging your audience is definitely a must to create a successful blog. However, this is not enough. There must be a conversion from audience to buyers in the long run. Think about it, how many exactly of your engaged audience will buy from you if you are only engaging with them and not marketing products. Great content and engagement should go hand in hand but we all know someone who has an engagement and no money. There must be a tie-in between what you share freely and what you charge money for. Providing free content is what you reach people for and building up trust and relationship from them but you can't shy away when it is time to charge money. It is not true that people will not pay money if they are used to getting free information from you, as long as it is of high value and closely related to the product. You are providing free value by sharing a story that comes with a solution that happens to cost money.


I am not saying you should save your best knowledge and content for creating your products. Rather, what I meant was, you definitely have to put in more hard work and better organization of your content. Also, there are many other forms of conveying your information such as videos, webinars, eBooks etc. Let me give a simple example, there are several processes to create an eBook. You would need to outsource the job of designing the book cover to graphics designer if you do not have the knowledge, hiring someone to proof read for you to make it better and also, you might also need to pay some fees to create the copyrights of your product to avoid plagiarism. All of the procedures require a certain amount of capital and if your products are really worth the price, the consumers will definitely be glad to take out their card to make payment.


Target the right audience


Growing your audience is easy but growing the right audience was one of the difficult things of blogging. If you are constantly posting, there are times that I posted something that side tracked on my particular niche. In order to engage your audience, you have to make sure that you are writing to the right people. You must first identify on your niche and then zoom into your specific audience, only that you will engage your audience. The narrower your niche is and the less people writing about it, the more you will stand out.


Have an Agenda


You have to plan out what you ultimately want to achieve, and then create a constant strategy to get you there. Not every post has an agenda but every posts fits into the overall requirements of creating value and building engagement with your audience. Stop and think about how amazing it is. Focus on creating content first and people will spread the word for you. They might also be your customers, clients or even friends in the future. The issue isn't whether or not free content works, it works. The issue is whether you are measuring conversion rather than some other forms of engagement such as facebook likes and commenting.


Engagement without conversion is useless. You need to be grabbing people's attention, making them to be closer to you by leaving their email address. Email remains the top online conversion since you have gotten their attention. So you would continue to provide free value and once people have given you their trust and receive enough value from you, they will do business with you. You don't need to have a huge audience to be successful on content marketing and you can start from nothing to build your engaged audience. Build a mailing list


After providing the valuable content, it is time for you to build a mailing list. The importance of a list should never be underestimated because your email list is number 1 as a blogger. Research shows that over 70% of businesses are operating without business plans; in fact, the statistics is even higher when it comes to online businesses, blogging included. I bet you are also guilty of this. It is an established fact that a requisite for success in business is a plan. Now if a plan is a recipe for business success, why are most bloggers blogging without it? Well, I think that's a question you should answer yourself. Drawing up a plan for your blog is not compulsory but if you are serious about treating your blog as a business; then I will advice you put up a plan for your blog.


Just recently, I completed the process of selling a portion my blog. What I am trying to say in essence is that I just concluded the process of raising capital for my blog. The first and the most critical way a plan can help you is in the area of focus. When it comes to running a business, there are definitely a lot of issues fighting for attention; and this may lead to distraction. Nothing is more common than the story of bloggers who are jumping from one money-making scheme to another. The primary reason why these bloggers are so easily distracted is because they have no plan. The reason I stayed focused on one blog for three years was because I had a plan; I knew where I was going, I also knew my end point.

I know a lot of bloggers that started from scratch, grew big and forgot the initial purpose why they started blogging. A plan will help you avoid being among these set of arrogant bloggers. This is where you highlight the notion behind the blog's conception and how you came up with the idea to create the blog. In this part, you have to describe specifically the idea, research result, niche analysis and your targeted audience.


3. Your blog objectives
In this section, you need to describe the aim of your blog, its short and long-term goals, its vision and mission statement; and the blog's growth strategy.


4. Your Bio
This is where you highlight your blog management team and what their purposes are. Are you the sole owner of the blog? Or you are just a partner? In this section, you will need to explain the blog ownership structure; and the faces behind the blog. Information needed here include the names and backgrounds of members of the management team and their tasks. Also to be added is their area of specialization, prior accomplishments, strengths and weaknesses, etc.


5. Your Monetization Strategy
Are you running a non-profit blog? If no, how do you plan to generate revenue from the blog? You have to explain that in this part of your business plan. Will you monetize your blog with affiliate programs, advertisements, donations, product sales or services? You have to put it down in writing here.


6. Your market potential
This is where you highlight in details the fundamentals and outcome of your research.


Why did you target the niche your blog is situated in?
Is the niche small or huge?
Is the niche a growing trend or a declining one?
Is the niche narrow or broad?
What is the local and global search volume of your keywords?
How many percent of the total search volume can you pull to your blog?


These are questions you must answer before even creating your blog.


7. Your marketing strategy
How will you broadcast to the world that you can satisfy their needs? How do you intend to attract traffic to your blog? How much is your intended budget for publicizing your blog? Will you promote your blog in print media, television, on the Web or all of these? Will your marketing tactics focus more on search engine optimization, joint ventures, free campaigns or paid campaigns? What marketing tools will be needed and at what cost? Who are the major competitors in your niche? How do they attract traffic to their blog? How did they monetize their blog? What percentage of market share do they control? All these need to be listed out in your plan.


8. Your financial projection
This is where you compile a summary of your projected financial earnings. This is actually the part that interests investors more.


9. Your exit strategy
This is the section that most bloggers don't want to talk about. Most bloggers think they will live and die with their blog but in reality, it's not possible. You must relinquish control of your blog someday; whether you like it or not. So instead of leaving your blog to fate, why not plan for it in advance? A good plan must include a part that lays out the yardstick with which you will use to decide when to call it quits. Even if you don't intend selling your blog, just prepare an exit strategy. An exit strategy is a sign of financial intelligence; it is also a contingency plan just in case things don't go as planned.

Make Things Up to Truly Engage Your Online Visitors

Once upon a time there was a website visitor who started reading a blog post about making things up. The reader sat in his office surround by books and files gripped by the words scrolling past his eyes. Surely, it could not be true, he thought. The blog post was telling him not to tell the truth on his own website. The website visitor sat their stunned, staring at the screen with his mouth wide open in amazement. How on earth could it be worthwhile making things up instead of telling people the truth, he thought.


You might be thinking the same as our blog reader - surely I can't be advising you to make things up on your website. But I am. Honest...!


New research shows that when people read fiction they become much more emotionally engaged with the subject. The researchers used fictional accounts of voters and gave them to people who were due to vote in elections. The people who read stories where the main character was very similar to them actually voted in higher numbers than people who read stories where the characters were remote. In other words, when people read fiction with which they identified it changed their behaviour.


Story telling is an essential component in all communication. Indeed, news media call everything they do "stories" and when you watch TV shows like X-Factor you get the story behind each contestant, which often looks at their triumph over adversity. And what do the judges do? Well they ensure there is conflict - an essential component of a good story. The show may parade itself as a talent contest, but in reality it is a series of stories - and that's central to its success.


This new research adds to the massive amount of material available which shows how fundamental the concept of story is to communication. It suggests now that by using stories you can change behaviour. If you want your website visitors to do certain things, then telling them fictional stories about what other people have done could help. Of course your stories must be realistic and you need to identify the fact that they are made up (otherwise you'll generate mistrust once you are found to be lying). But if you use stories then you can increase engagement and produce behavioural changes in your website visitors.

Going Public

At some point and time, and if the stars align most business owners dream about going Public. They want to offer an initial public offering (IPO) because they want their company to be publicly traded. However, there are some companies that decide that being a privately held company is good enough for them. So do you think that individuals should Go Public also?


At some point you are going to have to live your passion. You are going to have to strap everything on your back and ride with the waves, and you are going to have to declare that you are going public with whatever it is you are doing. As an aspiring professional blogger, Network Marketer and Entrepreneur I have dreams of finally going public and I know exactly what that is going to look like, do you? Or better yet, how would you go about going public?


Well to me its all about Application. How do you apply the necessary skills that you are learning to the process? I will tell you this its absolutely not going to be easy when you do decide to go public. Most of us are aspiring to take our dreams and goals to the next level which I consider Public domain. We sit and we study, we practice, we teach, and we apply what we learn.


Here are two thoughts to remember;
Application is everything.Its what you Do that matters.

Everyone knows that my blog is focused around the Network Marketing industry and Leading with purpose in an industry that has so many misconceptions. So many people believe that there is something negative associated with the Network Marketing industry, but little do some know that more successful and well rounded individuals belong to the industry.? My goal is to shed a positive light on the industry and show people that the Network marketing and Direct sales industry birthed many individuals like Jim Rohn, Les Brown, Randy Gage and more..So why is it that more individuals don't go Public with their decision to help others? Truly its all Network marketing is, helping others see themselves better than they see themselves and in turn they can make a generous living by helping people. I believe the reason why I was drawn to the industry was because I felt that there needed to be positive changes made and it was my way to help so many people that are struggling now to make ends meet. The questions that popped into my head were;
What if I can help a single mom earn an extra 1k this month, how would that affect her?What if I can help the dad that works over 80+ hours a week and don't get to see his family as much?What If I can help the school teacher that is under paid and over-worked to earn some additional income?What about the Church organization that is going Bankrupt because tithing is down?What about being able to generate enough income so that we could feed the homeless and buy more clothes?

I still feel that this is the best way to create a passive residual income stream that can help a Family monthy stay afloat. Did you know that the average household could have used just an additional $300 to stay from foreclosing on their home? Imagine if they only knew that they could start a business for little to low cost and earn potentially more than they make on their full time job, would that not be so fascinating? So how can that person that is surrounded by negativity Go Public / Break free?
Make a public declaration of a new association - Now is going to be the time when you are going to draw the line in the sand and break ties with all Negative things and people. Now you need to start making new associations with people that are like minded individuals.
Make a personal declaration of association - This means you have to be so fed up that you personally decide that you can't stand your current situation any longer and now is the time to change. You must take it upon yourself to want to get better and help others.

So now is the time if you are working on something Big, something HUGE that is going to change lives you need to Go Public with it. Others need to feel your passion and they need to know your cause.
